Installing IDG-Trade
Both the Trial and the Bought
versions are exactly the same download file.
The difference is that once
you purchase IDG-Trade, you will receive a registration number which
removes any restrictions.
In the trial version, there
are only two restrictions.
The first is to limit the
number of your customers to 30, and
the second is that the
software will not be accessible after 30 days.
Download IDG-Trade from the
Internet.
If you have not already
downloaded the software, click here
to go to the download page.
A box will be displayed.
You will be asked to press the button that will either say
'Save' or 'Save the program to Disk' (depending on what version
of Windows you are using). It is advisable to write down the
directory name where the file is being saved just in case you
need to start the installation manually after the download has
completed.
Press the 'Save' or 'OK'
button to continue.
While it is downloading to
your computer, click on the Startup Instructions above to help you
during and after installation.
Please note that the
installation file is called IDGSetup.exe and is approx. 21 Mb
in size.
With a 56k modem, it is
expected to take approximately 1˝ hours (this depends on your
internet provider).
The download is restartable,
which means that if you lose your internet connection, or if you
need to cancel the download for some reason, you can click again on
the
Download page at the top of this
page and the download will continue from where it left off. If you
have broadband, it will be downloaded in minutes.
Once the download is
complete, it should automatically ask if you would like to begin
installation. Installation will only take a few minutes and will
require you to restart your computer before you can use IDG-Trade.
You must do this.
If you do not wish to install
IDG-Trade straight away, you can double-click the IDGSetup.exe file
from your download directory when you are ready.
During the installation,
follow the instructions and accept all the defaults.
Please load the software to
the C: drive.
If you really have to load
IDG-Trade to a drive other than the C: drive, you will need to read
the help that will be available after installation. (select the
Window's Start button; Programs; IDG-Trade; IDG-Trade Help, and
select the "Known Problems and Peculiarities" topic from the
Contents. Look at point 2.
But please only load to a
different drive if you really have to.
IDG-Trade can be used in many
different countries.
When you start IDG-Trade, it
uses the settings from your Windows Control Panel. Therefore,
currency, date format, and numbers are controlled by you from the
Regional and Language Options in the Control Panel.
The language in IDG-Trade
does not change; it is currently only in English. This means that
all screen labels and help screens are all in English.
Please email us if you find
that IDG-Trade cannot support your work. We cannot promise that we
will make any changes for you, but we will look at any suggestions.
We are always looking for ideas that will enhance our software.
Suggestions when
first starting to use IDG-Trade
We have
tried to make IDG-Trade as user friendly as possible, but there’s no
getting around the user having to put certain details in the software.
When first going in, it is worth spending the time going through each
tab on the setup wizard.
After
doing as much as possible in the setup wizard, press exit and on the
main menu, press Utilities, and open Defaults. Just go through each tab
and double check there is nothing else you want to change. Most of the
details will be setup from the setup wizard.
Once
finished on the Defaults screen, close it and open up each of the other
screens from the Utilities screen. I wouldn’t worry about changing too
much at this point, although change the Owner details to your own name
so that when you print the invoices etc, your name will appear on the
documents.
Once
finished on the Utilities screen, close it and go through each of the
Details buttons on the left of the Main Menu. Add yourself as an
Employee, as well as a Supplier (you will be supplying labour).
Add
some stock in the stock details screen. Note that labour is a stock item
with one difference… the Unit of Measure needs to have the value
of HRS on the stock screen.
One
last thing, IDG-Trade has the ability of loading a file containing a
list of parts with price, description, trade price, and retail price.
When
you are ready to look at IDG-Trade, the best way to check out the basic
details is:
From the Main Menu, open up the Customer Details. Just use the
customer that is there – make any changes you want.
Press the Quotes button on the right of the Customer screen
Insert a new quote then press the Quote Breakdown button to select
your labour and stock items
From the Cost Breakdown screen, press the Select Stock button and
enter a quantity against each of the items there (or whatever you
want). Exit and go back to the Quote Details screen.
Press the Accept tab on the Quote Details screen and press the
Create Job button.
You
will now find yourself on the Job Details screen. The button on the
right of the screen only are accessible after a Start Date has been
entered (just press the ‘=’ button to the right).
Now
just press each of the buttons to the right in turn to see what they
do.
That’s
plenty to look at for the moment. Press F1 any time for screen help.

Thank you for your interest in
